Recreating the 635 - Reflections

Looking back...

Who remembers our 635 Running Day back in August 2023? It feels like an age since then, but in the run up to our upcoming 6 Running Day next month, now seems a good time to reflect.

The day started with timely departures from either end, and continued throughout the day. The route was altered slightly for our double deck vehicles due to low trees in Wick, a lesson learned!

The rain stopped and the sun shone giving a great opportunity to enjoy the views from the upper deck of open-top Volvo B10M D705GHY. We were very grateful to Aled and Josh for bringing this and Bristol VR DHW351W, which we were thrilled to find out later on that day had Kingswood on its destination blind, presenting an excellent chance to grab a photo.

Thanks also go to Jamie and Dominic for bringing King Long coach GN10COA, providing a great variety of vehicles.

Whilst this event had a smaller vehicle requirement than previous events, it was our most successful yet! We lost no mileage from our scheduled timetable, something which is a rare treat with preserved vehicles and really made the day a triumph from our perspective.

When we recreate the Wilts & Dorset 6 on the 12th of May we are aiming to increase the number of vehicles, but try and keep the same punctuality and coverage we managed to achieve on the 635.

With kind thanks to Oscar Taylor for the words and photography
